Happy New Year and hello, I’m back! Ok so catch me up on everything, what did I miss??? 🤣

I took December off of Instagram with the intention of having one less thing to do, so I could take that time and work on projects that I had been wanting to start or get caught up on. But here’s what happened. Instead of doing MORE in other areas, instead of thinking of WHAT ELSE I could do, I actually used my little bit of freed-up time to just do LESS. My enneagram 3 self (if you know the type, you know lol) quieted down just in time for the Christmas season for a little break. I loved just having that much more space to be present, and I’m bringing that feeling with me into this year ❤️

Today we’re enjoying hanging at home for New Years Day (and living it up with a buffet of Trader Joe’s snacks 😆) and tomorrow we’re heading out to our 6th Annual Perry Family Staycation. I can’t wait to catch up on messages hear how your Christmas and New Years went - and what you’re excited about for 2020!

Hello December - and goodbye! 👋🏼 I am going to be signing off of Instagram for the rest of the year 💕 Why?

Because you’ve seen enough gift guides I’m sure 😂, you don’t need to see my holiday decor, time is precious, Christmas is my favorite, and I want to turn my attention inward instead of outward as I recalibrate how I spend my time as we go into the new year. When time feels like it’s flying by, that means we’re skimming the surface and not really present in it. So I’m “gifting” myself and my family my presence this Christmas. It often just takes small actions to make a big difference in our lives 🎁

The Good To Be Home weekly podcast will still be going strong, my monthly “favorites” and “organizing tip” emails will still go out, and I’ll still be fully active over in my online group for the organizing course members. So if you’re subscribed to any of the above, we’ll still be connected over there 😉

Today’s gift guide is up and I saved the best for last : SMALL BUSINESSES 💚 Specifically, women-owned shops that I personally can vouch for. In a world of Amazon Prime shipping and massive Black Friday sales that are happening even before Thanksgiving 🙃 it’s easy to be pulled by a good, quick deal and forget the value, the quality, the heart that is available for us from the smaller shops that have some pretty awesome products.

This turned out to be my favorite gift guide this year because it came from conversations she and I had in the car as we drove around these past few weeks, and I really enjoyed that time with her asking for advice.

When I started doing gift guides on the blog 3 years ago, I started with just one : a hostess gift guide. I was taught (especially being raised in the Japanese culture) to never arrive to a home empty handed, so this is a guide that is inspired by that belief (thanks, Mom 😉)
